I am SO excited to announce that in the next 2 and a half months I’ll get to meet my son! I’ve long heard of that special bond, that special love that a mother has for a child and while I could try and imagine it, now I will actually KNOW what it is!! What a joy! What a blessing! What an honor!Our son is due right close to my own birthday which of course he would make a beautiful birthday present, but I’m hoping that he makes his grand entrance a bit before I made mine!

Motherhood, soon to be mom

I’m blessed to say that my pregnancy has been without complications or very much difficulty. Ironically I ended up loosing about 20 pounds from my wedding day to the middle of my first trimester of which I’ve only gained back about 5. I feel great in my skin for the most part and I feel well.

One thing being pregnant has really brought home to me is the need to rest and take care of myself. Basically to really implement and practice self-care. It’s the one time in a woman’s life (especially with the first baby) where you are encouraged to sleep and rest as much as possible! I can’t think of another occasion where people will tell you “make sure you get enough rest”. Honestly it’s awesome. Being pregnant definitely has it’s perks!

Another thing that being pregnant has taught me or shall I say retaught me, is to listen to my body’s hunger cues and cravings and also to quit when I’m good. That is something that I’ve struggled with in the past, learning to listen to my body and to trust that it knows best what I should eat and when. Being pregnant has helped me to reconnect with that feeling and has made me trust my body. It’s honestly a great feeling and is such a release from pressure!

There are so many voices out there telling us what we should and shouldn’t do with our bodies, it’s a relief to finally look inward and be able to trust ourselves. Of course it’s not an easy thing to do when everything says that your instincts around food are not to be trusted, but being pregnant has definitely helped me with that. I plan on continuing my self care and listening to my body throughout the rest of my pregnancy and beyond.
